Sandland packaging takes next step in ambitious growth plan with latest investment

Sandland Packaging has taken the next step in its growth plans with investment in a Midas MD Ultra Fully-Automatic Stitcher/Gluer – the only one of its kind in the UK. With a running speed of 5,000 per hour, it is set to transform production at the busy plant, replacing existing machinery and significantly improving turnaround times. With a maximum sheet size 2600x1000mm, this supports our provision of bespoke packaging.

With a colour HMI screen for ease of operator setting and a motorised set up, the Midas MD is quick to start and has a pre-creasing section to aid folding of poorly creased or heavy sheet.

For precise box integrity, the stitcher gluer has a servo driven registration section for precise box integrity along with a suction feed to assist with warped board. Using a cold PVA glue system, the machine has an independent squaring section for glued boxes. A batch counter ejector allows complete control of items produced.

The investment includes automated box strapping to ensure well-presented packaging with more boxes on a pallet. This deal follows Sandland Packaging leasing a 30,000 sq ft second site in November to cope with increased demand, investing in a new CRM system and undertaking recruitment for a number of new apprentices. This supports an ambitious growth plan to deliver increased sales of 25% over the next 3 years.

Martin Hickman, Managing Director, confirmed, “As a growing business, we’re always focused on improving our capability for our customers. This new investment, the first of its kind in the UK, automates stitching and gluing making us more efficient. The bottom line is that our customers will get their packaging faster.”
